What a great night! Miss Jamaica UK was a great success; in spite of the change of date due to the bad weather there was a good turn out and a great atmosphere.

The Camden centre buzzing with excitement, Caribbean food supplied by cummin up so we were able to eat, relax and take in the evening, but everyone had only one thing on their minds flicking through the brochure pointing to their favourites “who was going to be crowned Miss Jamaica UK?”

I had an opportunity to speak to the girls as they were getting ready for their first appearance on stage, nerves hit an all time high but all were excited to walk out in their swimwear, they all looked fantastic but if the truth be known I would not have the guts to do that so I am full of admiration.

As they hit the stage you can hear the audience roar with excitement each girl carefully remembering their steps and smiles to win over the judges.

The judges this year were TV personality Crystal Rose, Mr England 2010 Vaughn Bailey, former bond girl Dianna Dahlia-Jervis, former Miss Jamaica UK Sanchia De Cage, Director of PAKS hair cosmetics Peter Mudahy, Flyer Newspaper director Patrick Weir and founder member and past chair of BPA Leroy Logan.

After a fantastic performance from the girls and two outfit changes later the final 7 were chosen, Petergaye Palmer, Nicole Richards, Shauna-Kaye Grant, Alisha Mcintyre, Tameka Willcocks, Nicole Richards, Salema Junior Radford, and Camille Grant.

The judges needed time to deliberate, so while the audience waited we were entertained by several different artists, my personal favourite on the night was a song called Brighter Day by Noel Mckoy, he gave me chills, what a great voice!

So now the moment has arrived! Despite being the peoples choice on the online poles Camile Grant which was my personal favourite did not make it, but the second runner up was Shauna-Kaye Grant, A 25 year old Contracts Progressor, the first runner up was 26 year old Nicole Richards a law graduate currently working as a assistant manager in Harrods, congratulations to them both and hopefully we can see them actively supporting Miss Jamaica UK in the future.

And the winner is….. drum roll please ………. Miss Salema Junior Radford!!
Here is a little bit about the winner in her own words and why she fully deserves the title of Miss Jamaica UK.

“I am 21 years old, in my 3rd year studying Medicine at Newcastle University. I am originally from Norwich, where I live with my mother and sister. At school I gained 3 A’s in Chemistry, Biology and Geography A levels. I was a keen dancer and passed exams in ballet and modern dance. I also played the Cello for my school orchestra, in competitions and for Norfolk “100 Strings”.
In 2008 I won one of 100 places on the Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship, and was able to travel to India for 6 weeks to research globalization, whilst I was there I made a documentary about the Indian education system and was able to attend dinner at the British High Commissioner’s residence and the American Embassy. On my return to the UK, we presented our findings to the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street.
In 2009, I was signed to Tyne Tee’s Models in Newcastle and also worked as a freelance model for Illamasqua ( in house), Connections Fitness and the London Photo and Graphics Society amongst others. In 2010 I reached the, top 100 FHM Holiday High Street Honey’s, and was crowned Miss Norwich 2010. I went on to win one of the judges choice awards at the Miss England Semi-Finals and competed in the Miss England Final this summer. Although I did not win, I had a fantastic time and learnt a lot about myself.
Currently I am training for Tough Guy, “the worlds toughest assault course” which is at the end of January, the race raises money for Help the Hero’s Sanctuary, for injured horses and ponies.
I enjoy charity work and in recent years have walked in charity fashion shows for The Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust and raised money for Beat, The Variety Club, The Teenage Cancer Trust and The Rotary Club.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with friends, traveling, shopping, baking and keeping fit. I have recently taken up Yoga, and am really enjoying it.
I hope to be a great ambassador as Miss Jamaica UK, and look forward to raising money for Denham Town Infant school.
My aspiration in life is to be a good doctor, and travel the world working in war and disaster zones.”
